Good ole Bruce
Who the f*ck is Bruce Wayne?
That is often how it is put to me so lets not beat around the bush here and ask what we all really want to ask. Who does Bruce Wayne think he is? Well in all honesty Bruce Wayne thinks he is no one because in fact he is no one. Bruce is a fictional personification of many of the the authors ideals and conflicts. He does not actually exist.
What started out as a way to protect the authors anonymity… or rather poke fun at the anonymity police I forget which… turned into something more.
Not to get to conceptual here but doesn’t this whole thing beg the question who do you think Bruce Wayne is. In your universe that is exactly what he is. To some he is an arrogant little punk that has no respect for anything. To others he is a sensitive guy who wants everyone to love one another. And to the truly insane he is their savior… a modern day Mason or Jones… In a sense you create your own universe and you will not find anything on this page to help you define that. As you read this you are simply trying to configure these statements into the world as you understand it. So that is Bruce Wayne. How ever you see him.
Just Tell Me about BRUCE!
For those of you who wish to have a resume of Bruce all I can say is that it does not describe who he is. It does not give you any more understanding of him because it is your experiences with these things that will form the picture of Bruce. With this in mind I offer you a simple paragraph.
Lets see as of right now he cleaned up in the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous in late 1995. After a call to suicide prevention and a short trip to a meeting he has yet to use and substances including alcohol (I know its redundant but what you gonna do). He attended several universities and graduated from none having accumulated 155 hours in biology, psychology, chemistry, art and design… nope I looked no underwater basket weaving was available. After that he went on to the wonderful world of pizza delivery before spending some time working with Addicts in a treatment house. Finally the poor guy having discovered that he had a true disdain for the sociopathic nature of drug addicts (meaning he got tired of coming back to the house and find more of his stuff had done walked out the door). He went on to do web design and production. He produced a few sites that did fairly well but as of January 2009 the backers for most of these projects pulled out due to the economy.
Seriously does that make you feel better. Pointless drivel if you ask me.
Anonymity
Ok nothing is more insane then the anonymity police. If you said Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous anywhere on the web be prepared to find some slack jaw that has nothing better to do then crawl up your butt… GRINS. I have been around long enough to understand what anonymity means to me in regards to recovery. In a sense it mostly about another persons and is an antiquated concept at best. So let me just say this about this site. Do I believe this site violates the true intention or spirit of anonymity??? no! Really that should be all you wanted to know… the whys and hows and whats its don’t really matter. I will gladly take you concerns under consideration but what I mean by that is not what you may think I mean… I respect your opinions and concerns I simply don’t agree with them. I respect your right to have and voice your concerns. I consider your concerns as an indication of who you are as a person. I do not expect the same in return but it would be nice.
Bruce and Satire
Some of you may get the feeling that Bruce Wayne is a little over the top in the arrogance department. Anyone who has a true understanding of satire can tell you that that is the joke. Many comedians have used this little tool to point out the basic character flaws that we all deal with.
For instance - On the main page of this site you will see a picture of a woman insinuating that Bruce is the best at something. Because of her appearance many people may associate some sort of sexual context with this something. To explain satire is not only patronizing but it ruins it so I will leave her at that but if you have ever scene a skit with Ronald Reagan acting as if he was lost or not all there in the head. Add a walker and perhaps a few nurses at his side some might say “that’s just wrong to make fun of his age”. Guess what it is wrong. Its completely in poor taste. And its freaking hysterical. That is exactly why we find it funny because it goes against what is expected. That is actually the premise of humor.
Just thought I would clear that up…
