I have yet to meet an addict that enjoys asking for help. It puts us in a position of vulnerability. The funny thing is that long before we got here it was very apparent that we needed help. The mistake is thinking we are supposed to do know how to solve every problem.
Will people take advantage of us? Yes there are some who will. And yet there are many people in the rooms who can remember what it is like to feel lost, confused and hopeless. There are those of us that understand how difficult it is to ask for what we need. We had become so used to being told NO that we just stopped asking.
Unfortunately we cannot change until we ask for it.
